If you love old English folk songs, then I have a treat in store for you. Sonny Brazil lives on a narrowboat and wherever he moors he calls home in the English rivers. Sonny adores old folk songs and since he floats around the country with his guitar, he re-envisions them in his eyes. Reminding me of a male Olivia Chaney in some ways, Sonny Brazil takes old English folk songs, tidies the lyrics and weaves an old melody around the words. His debut single “TwoCrows” or TwaCorbies as it’s originally known, has had many variations but Sonny chose the Scottish melody to give his melancholy voice to. It’s a lovely rendition, stripped back and focused.
“TwoCrows” is the first single from Sonny Brazil’s forthcoming EP “Darker Season” which is due out on the 2nd of March 2022. You can follow his work over on Instagram where I can see plenty of other folk instruments in use. Are they clues for how the other songs on the EP sound? Who knows! The only ones who know are Sonny Brazil and Babylegs Records who are releasing it.
