Introducing… Alina Bzhezhinska & HipHarpCollective

Jazzy harp but not as you normally find it.

Alina Mzhezhinska is a London-based Ukraine-born harpist and alongside her HipHarpCollective, she is attempting to reimagine the harp in its jazz context. For her forthcoming album “Reflections”, she places the harp into all kinds of genre mashups. Want some hip-hop beats with your harp jazz? Check! Fancy some funk crossover? You’ll find that too. The album is expected to be a melting pot of ideas, genres and collaborations putting the harp into lesser-known arenas. Alina herself has previously studied music in Warsaw taught harp in Scotland and has even performed for British and Thai royalty.

One of two new tracks just released to promote the new album is “Afro Blue”. This moves Alina Bzhezhinska & HipHarpCollective into the percussive Latin arena. Together with vocalist Vimala Rowe, the harp solos flourish and interplay with the wooden percussion and horns.

Enjoy the single “Afro Blue” below, it is out now as an AA single with “Paris Sur Le Toit” a hip-hop harp track. It’s taken from the forthcoming album “Reflections” slated for release on the 23rd of September. For more information on Alina Bzhezhinska & HipHarpCollective, visit their website.
