Norwegian indie-folk artist Louien has already packed lots into her short musical career already. Her debut album in 2019 “None of My Words” was rooted in processing the death of her father. It allowed Louien to use her acoustic guitar and deeply mesmerising voice to weave all kinds of stories. After her 2021 EP “No Tomorrow”, she is turning her attention outside of herself as much as inside for the forthcoming EP “Figure Me Out”. It’s a collection of songs that pitches an idea. Is trying to look cool by being aloof far less cool than be present, engaged and vulnerable?
“Second Best” is the new single and showcases the range of Louien’s vocals. She has a commanding lower register that captivates the listener. This then transitions to a lush and glazed higher register as more electric guitars, synths and strings are added to the mix in the second half. It’s a lovely track and out now. Fans of Sharon Van Etten will be very at home here.
