Rock duo waveform* has announced their forthcoming album ‘Antarctica’ will be out on the 12th of May and celebrated by releasing their new single ‘Firework’. The duo are based in Connecticut and their new single stood out to me as it has an unusual blend of rock elements. The verses are meandering bedroom indie rock introspection but the courses break out into a raucous wall of electric guitar and a much heavier sound. It sounds both disenchanted and ready to kick a chair over. This veering from edge to edge comes from the fact that waveform* is sharing the songwriting quite evenly between the two bandmates – Jarett Denner and Dan Poppa.
waveform* started releasing music in 2018 and ‘Antarctica’ is the first album where the duo have written and recorded everything collaboratively. Previously, Denner and Poppa would contribute their own songs to the project but that is not the case this time around, as Poppa explains. “In the past, we’d just accept that anything the other was doing was the way it was, but now we’re much more willing to try each other’s opinions and ideas.”
