Introducing… Helen Kelter Skelter

Psych rockers return with a skittish and triumphant anti-anthem.

Oklahoma-based heavy psychedelic rockers Helen Kelter Skelter has been busy over the pandemic. Whilst their immediate plans were cancelled, they spent their time working on new material and have an EP and an LP flying out in 2023. Keeping their rock full of reverb, a splash of chaos and plenty of unusual turns, their first offering from their new EP is called ‘Best Friends’. It starts off as a tight, taut psych-rock piece with a muddier edge to the vocals. Skittish and energised guitar runs punctuate the verses before the track moves into a climactic and triumphant outro that builds into an explosive frenzy. I love how the track feels retro-inspired but also modern in its punkish krautrock undertone too.

‘Best Friends’ is the first track from the EP Chroma Crawl, which is due for release on the 16th of June. Helen Kelter Skelter (why is this not a fairground ride name already?) will follow up the 5-track EP with a full LP, currently slated for an October release window.
