Hania Rani returns with new single ‘Hello’, embracing her ethereal jazzier side

A new cross-over era for the composer and evocative pianist.

Hot off the heels of her beautiful album ‘On Giacometti’ which was released in February (and I’ve not had the chance to review yet), Hania Rani is already bounding ahead with new material. Her latest single ‘Hello’ sees the pianist turn to ethereal electronics, electric piano and exploring rhythmic jazz. Having moved from totally instrumental to using her voice occasionally, this track is fully vocalised too as Hania moves into contemporary jazz. She has previously spoken about enjoying the Polish jazz scene and this feels like the start of a journey into it. I’d have not categorised her previous music as jazz but the freeform middle section and traditional jazz set up, drenched in echoing vocals and thick moogs leans into the jazz scene beautifully.

Whilst a new album hasn’t been announced, Hania Rani is touring from October to December in Europe, Canada and America so I’m guessing something is on the cards for later this year. Enjoy the beautiful music video of an as-live performance in the mountains of Courchevel, France below. For more information on all things Hania Rani, visit her website. I promise to bring a review of ‘On Giacometti’ soon but the short version is, buy it, it’s great.
