Bringing me full-on 90’s rock vibes ala Belly, Annie Taylor are four friends that take me back to my youth. They are pure rock and roll on the surface but weave in elements of pop, shoegaze and previously psychedelia and grunge. Since releasing their debut ‘Sweet Mortality’ in 2020 to supporting Skunk Anansie last year on tour, they’ve been gathering momentum and pace and working towards their second album. It is fair to say that if you loved Skunk Anansie, you’d likely love Annie Taylor too.
‘Ride High’ is their radio-friendly summer anthem and comes from their forthcoming second album ‘Inner Smile’, which releases on 7th July. It sounds like it belongs on the Romeo and Juliet or Buffy The Vampire Slayer soundtrack, as it’s very pop-rock but with nods towards a more raucous side waiting in the wings. Gini Jungi, one of the band members, says the song is about how family and friends drift away from you over time and how that makes you assess your own path.
