Introducing… Jeremy Dutcher

Unique operatic tenor who mixes all kinds of genres of music with his Wolastoq First Nation roots

Jeremy Dutcher is a classically trained operatic tenor and composer who takes every opportunity to blend his Wolastoq First Nation roots into the music he creates. Put simply, I have never heard anything else quite like it. Jeremy’s music straddles orchestral, piano pop, contemporary jazz and indie pop as he weaves in all kinds of traditional nuances too. His 2018 debut album ‘Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa’ is a post-classical explosion of ideas and creativity and things seemed to have gone quiet for a bit. However, Jeremy has returned with new track ‘Skicinuwihkuk’. ‘Skicinuwihkuk’ translates to ‘Indian Land’ and the song is about land sovereignty. The track starts off as a brooding orchestral and vocal piece before Dutcher brings in his piano for a beautiful modern pop outro.
