Quintet rockers Koyo are an energetic blend of punk, emo and hardcore rock whose recent single ‘Anthem’ has caught my attention. The track, which blasts through heavy riffs and emo vocals at a breakneck pace speaks to me as someone who has had many coming-of-age moments through music. Koyo’s Vocalist Joey Chiaramonte says ‘Anthem’ is their attempt at making a song to share that moment of discovering your sound, band or creative mojo or having that live show transcendent experience that makes you a music lover for life. People often say they’ve discovered their anthem and Koyo wanted to write a song as a love letter to everyone who shares that idea.
The quintet from Long Island have been playing underground for a while but has been gearing up for their debut album. Entitled ‘Would You Miss It?’, the band will continue to explore its hardcore punk energy when it is released on the 29th of September. The five childhood friends have been playing together for three years and have a few EP’s out already if you are craving their infectious energy right now. I recommend kicking off with the video for ‘Anthem’ which is available to watch below. The single is out now.
