Introducing… Andrew Schneider

Art rock meets corporate elevator music hell in this sassy commentary on job interviews.

Eclectic art rock meets corporate hell in ‘Opportunity’, the new single from Andrew Schneider. Maybe the universe was telling me something because I’ve just had to apply for my own job and the whole thing has been a complete nightmare. Andrew Schneider also seems to be non-plussed with similar situations as his new EP ‘Value Set!’ is about exploring the moment when your personal ideals falter in the face of ambition or comfort. This bares out in ‘Opportunity’ as the lyrics offer insights such as “Middle management needs willing dancers /
Watch us pirouette with classic answers.” I’ll have to check my email list to see if Andrew works where I do…

Stylistically, Andrew Schneider refuses to be hemmed in. A mixture of keyboards and electric bass serve as the foundation for his music but tracks often spiral out into jazz, orchestral, psychedelia or alternative. On this single, we flip from alt-piano rock to jazz to corporate elevator music and back again. It is great fun, a little sassy and reminds me of the singer-songwriter Voltaire. Both share on-the-nose commentary and a random warehouse of musical instruments to explore. Andrew cites David Bowie as an influence and I can hear it too.

Enjoy ‘Opportunity’ below, the single and EP are both out now. For more information on all things Andrew Schneider, follow him on Twitter.
