Swedish quartet Tribe Friday is gearing up for their second album and it is all about the high-energy indie rock vibe they bring. Reminding me of the visceral glory of dancefloor indie rock from the early 2000s, Tribe Friday’s new single ‘Day One’ is an explosive track. Moving from rubbery guitars and skittish drums in the verses to thrashing power chords and anthemic vocals for the chorus, the song is a firecracker of energy looking to explode in every beat of the bar. I wouldn’t say the entire sound is wrapped up, or trapped in, the early 2000s though. The tight runtime and the constant speed of change is very TikTok rock era too. I personally just found the track incredibly infectious, which is why I wanted to showcase it.
‘Day One’ comes from Tribe Friday’s forthcoming album ‘Hemma’, which comes just 16 months after their debut album ‘Bubblegum Emo’ which made a splash in the Swedish charts. About ‘Hemma’ Tribe Friday says, “This is a record about home and about coming to terms with what that word means to you, how violently it has shaped you. How much love you still hold for it, despite everything.” They describe the album as “a true emo record” too. By extension, the single ‘Day One’ is about facing someone you haven’t seen for years but you’d both hurt each other in the past.
Enjoy the latest single ‘Day One’ below, it’s out now. ‘Hemma’ is released on 13th October and for more information on all things Tribe Friday, visit their website. You’ll also find out about Tribe Friday supporting Wheatus on their UK tour dates this autumn too.
