‘Björk Orkestral with the Hamrahlíð Choir’ is the upcoming live album from Björk. It is a recording of her Reykjavík performance on the Orkestral tour in 2021, which despite the name, doesn’t feature an orchestra. Instead, the 50-strong Hamrahlíð Choir join Björk on stage, with ceiling mics to capture the male and female sections. Programmed beats and samples accompany chamber instruments like a celeste, harpsichord, and organ. Expect a vibrant display of choir arrangements from the Medulla album along with other tracks, such as ‘Hidden Place’ and ‘New World’.
Whilst ‘Björk Orkestral with the Hamrahlíð Choir’ is being released digitally, on CD, Vinyl, DVD audio, and Blu-ray audio, the actual video footage of the concert doesn’t seem to be available to buy. This feels like a missed opportunity, and I hope the concert can be available to watch, too. The live release comes out on 27th November. The promotional single is the penultimate track of the album, ‘Where Is The Line’. It’s as powerful as ever.
You can preorder the album now.
