Volkor X is exactly what happens when you mix metal and synthwave music together. The artist describes their music as “sitting at the table with Darth Vader and Thanos”, which is a perfectly apt description of the cinematic verbosity of the music. Following on from previous albums where synthwave perhaps met electronica more than rock, Volkor X’s upcoming third album ‘The Loop’ is heavier and darker. The idea is that this album charts the fate of Volkor X’s first human victim as they declare intergalactic war. It’s told through a fantastic music video that shows the character Syd journey into an alien world, only to discover its malevolent forces. It’s a true space epic and the album is slated for release on 20th October.
Central to the story arc is new single ‘One with the Void’. With soaring guitar work, expansive synths and a sound that melts together metal, post-rock and synthwave, it is a difficult track to not picture a sci-fi adventure to. Speaking about the single, Volkor X said:
This mid-tempo instrumental song is reminiscent of drifting through the vastness of space. Analogue synths confer a sense of both nostalgia and futurism to the track. Yet, at its core, it retains the hallmarks of post-rock, using its deliberate pacing and crescendo-building to tell a story. This fusion results in a quite unique experience, in my humble opinion.

Enjoy the 3D animation created for the single by Objectif 3D School in Angoulême, France. The single is out now and I promise you won’t hear six minutes as epic as these today. For more info on all things Volkor X, follow them on Bandcamp. I wonder if they’ll ever take off their mask…
