Introducing… Annie Dressner

The song you need for when bumping into an ex after a decade sets off some nostalgic melancholy

The genesis of singer-songwriter Annie Dressner’s new single ‘Black And White’ is that she bumped into an ex after almost a decade apart. The Cambridge, UK based artist said she felt sad at the fact that that person wasn’t going to be a part of their life as he meant a lot to her as a friend. That sparked the track and the chorus riff of “the thing that made me the saddest is I wanted to know you” which repeats beautifully across the song. The single starts off very unassuming with Annie’s clean vocal waning in certain places to give the track a whimsy nostalgia. However, the song creeps up on you until it breaks into a more cinematic and climactic finale as the drums pound and an emotional rush pours in.

Annie Dressner has been releasing music since 2011, having learnt her craft performing open mics in New York. She cites Simon & Garfunkel, Carly Simon, and Ben Kweller as inspirations for her music. She’ll be touring the UK as support for The Trials of Cato through to early December this year. For more info on all things Annie Dressner, visit her website.
