Maybe it is the summery ennui and laid-back melancholy that her new single ‘Bed of Roses’ provides, but Swedish artist ORKID hit the sweet spot for early Summer sunset. Returning after three years away with her previous single ‘Proud’, the self-confessed pickle lover (me too girl) brings a soulful and smooth spin on indie-pop. Clearly, she’s been marinading in new music ideas letting them build up flavour. OK, I’ll stop now.
When she isn’t writing music for other artists, ORKID has been weaving that Swedish pop magic by keeping melodically infectious pop music grounded in emotion and feeling. ORKID strikes a great balance between radio-friendly and a hint of something more fragile and layered under the surface. Think breezy Mandalay, Oh Land and Frou Frou – there’s a golden era mid-2000s indie-pop vibe here that just works.
Enjoy the new single ‘Bed of Roses’ which is out now. It is taken from the forthcoming EP ‘Where Flowers Grow’ which is due for release in June 2024. For more info on all things ORKID, follow her on Instagram.
