Easily one of the most engaging, energetic and magnetic bands I’ve ever had the privilege to enjoy live, Otoboke Beaver performed for NPR Tiny Desk this week. The Japanese punk band specialise in two-minute trashing explosions of emotion laced in sharp-tongued wit and cultural observations.
Across the 20-minute set, they climb the desks, scream and shout their way through a rustic and bombastic set. Otoboke Beaver are so energetic you don’t immediately catch on to just how talented they are as musicians. Their music slips and slides through time signatures, tempo swaps and unusual song structures without thought. They are so enjoyable and infectious, I’d recommend them as my go-to punk band regardless of your language. Enjoy their performance below.
