Never one to shy away from an adventure, Manu Delago spent 2023 on his ReCycling tour in support of his excellent 2021 album ‘Enviro Me’. This saw Manu and his four bandmates cycle their way from the Alps to the North Sea to play 18 concerts. They transported all their instruments and equipment in tow trailers covered in solar panels to charge the lightning rigs they’d use for their own gigs. It was both a technical marvel and a physical and mental challenge.
‘From the Alps to the North Sea’ is a half-hour documentary that follows the troupe as they cycle by day and then perform at night. It acts as part travelogue, part diary as we experience the beauty of Austria, Germany and The Netherlands. Alongside the feature, Manu Delago hosted a live Q&A with Isa Kurz which offers additional insight into the experience. The overarching theme is about friendship and comradery rather than the sporting and technical aspects of it all. It is an uplifting film and I appreciated the ice cream scoop counter!
If he isn’t taking his band up a mountain to perform in the stunning Parasol Peak, he’s cycling across part of Europe on a sustainable tour instead. Who knows what Manu Delago’s next adventure will bring?
