Introducing… Zanski

Multi-instrumentalist Zanski is an artist who enjoys the lo-fi and analogue home-brew approach to his music. Tape loops, guitars, synthesizers, vintage gear, cassettes, drum machines – it is all piled up in his Toronto-based studio. Through the mess of wires and recording gear, Zanski provides an indie rock sound that has a driftwood, floaty – almost hazy quality to it. The electronics are subtle. His vocals bleed into the music itself like a distant memory. The driving power of his music is more like a shroud of rock, but the pulse is still present too. It isn’t bedroom rock, but its gazey-haze makes things sound sullen.

Zanski has poured years of self-reflection and self-production into his work. His debut ‘Phenomena’ released in 2021 was a dreamy genre-bending mix of RnB soulful beats, smooth guitars, quirky dance synths and even a vocoder thrown in at times. It is a very different sound that doesn’t match the new single ‘Canines’. The new single signals a more organic approach to production and songwriting, so expect a more indie base sound than the tricky-to-define Soultronica previous era.

Enjoy ‘Canines’- it’s a real grower and is out now. For more information about Zanski, visit his YouTube channel. Alongside his music, Zanski also posted videos about how he tunes and produces his guitar sounds.
