Introducing… Lisa Crawley

New Zealand-born and Los Angeles-based Lisa Crawley creates indie-pop with catchy hooks and a knowing wink and nod. On her latest single, ‘The Gatekeeper’, Lisa is taking aim at the know-it-alls in the entertainment industry. Between the men in suits and the advice to sell out, it’s an environment that can wear down even the strongest of wills. The song’s lyrics are about keeping that negative voice and noise away.

“I hope listeners will hear it and be reminded to know their worth and be selective about who get to have a say in your life,” says Lisa. The fun, mockumentary-style video features actor/musician Paul Adelstein (The Menu, Prison Break), and shows various men coming into Lisa’s life to tell her what her song needs and why she’s not more successful. “It felt almost a little too close to home,” she says. I personally enjoyed the grimaces to camera. We’ve all been there…

The track itself is very radio-friendly, yet it has a slight dissonance in its main piano hook. That purposeful defiance in the hook gives ‘The Gatekeeper’ personality, sass, and a bluesy swagger that I enjoyed. Lisa’s vocals are strong and made for indie-pop, too. ‘The Gatekeeper’ is the second single taken from the forthcoming EP ‘New Girl Syndrome’. The EP is due for release on 25th April 2025.
