Introducing… Billianne

I’m behind the curve, but I’m catching up on Canadian singer-songwriter Billianne just before they release their debut album. She crosses different genres from single to single, but one that stands out is her powerful and emotive voice. Between indie-pop earworms (like the excellent Baby Blue), Americana, folk rock, and piano ballads, Billianne reminds me a little of Adele and KT Tunstall. There is also an old-school classic pop and rock quality to her music.

I came across Billianne when I found her live performance of the piano ballad ‘Modes I’ as part of the COLORS show series. COLORS place emerging and unique artists in a bold, colourful backdrop to perform some of their music. It’s a bit like a green screen studio meets the colour paint chart in a DIY shop – but with beautiful taste throughout. Billianne shines with a tender, thoughtful, and bittersweet performance of her ballad. She hits all the right notes without powerhousing a thing.

‘Modes I’ is taken from Billianne’s forthcoming debut album ‘Modes of Transportation’. The album is due out on 15th August and will contain the track ‘Modes I’, which is a non-single track. The album will cover daydreaming, city living, and how humanity moves between places, moments, relationships, and selves. The album release will be followed by an American, Canadian, and UK & Ireland tour from September to November.
