Imogen Heap announces 20th Anniversary Remaster and Vinyl for ‘Speak For Yourself’

With the record now becoming officially all hers, Imogen Heap is celebrating 20 years of her breakthrough record ‘Speak For Yourself’ with a vinyl and remaster. We are quick to forget how this album helped redefine independent artist success in the commercial world. The album has sold over 550,000 copies and nearly 650 million streams. Thinking that was possible back in 2025 as an indie artist, you’d have been put in a Headlock… I’ll let myself out.

Previewing the remastered release, the vocoder track ‘Hide and Seek’ has been released as a digital single. There is a behind-the-scenes chat between Imogen Heap and mastering engineer Simon Heyworth (who worked on the original) and his assistant, Bill Sellar, as they discuss what’s changed for the remaster. Whilst I discovered Imogen from the single ‘Come Here Boy’ from her superb alt-piano rock debut ‘iMegaphone’ from 1998, ‘Speak For Yourself’ was a seismic shift in just how detailed, layered, and immersive an indie pop album could be.

Imogen Heap has been busy building her own ecosystem for creative development in recent times. She has launched a personal subscription app to be part of the creative process and get exclusive previews and bonuses. Then there is Auracles, a way to create a digital ID for your creative footprint, keeping artists in control of their IP. Mogen.ai is Imogen’s exploration into generative AI technology. It aims to set up a fairer way to keep artists in control of emerging technology. If you create your AI voice, you can own it and license it out as you see fit. She’s never sat still, although I’d love to hear some new music coming in the future, too.

Speak for Yourself 20th Anniversary Remaster will release on 17th October. You can pre-order it from the Imogen Heap shop.
