Chamber FolkExperimentalHarpIntroducing...Singer Songwriter

Introducing… Justin Karas

Canadian experimental harpist and composer Justin Karas has announced that his forthcoming solo album is on its way. Titled ‘Flows Wild Abound’, it will be chugging into being on 12th September 2025. Justin’s beloved harp will stay front and centre in his sound, creating a chamber-folk-inspired world to explore.

Lead single ‘The Train’ sets the mood and tone beautifully. From intricate skips of the harp and rumbles of marimba, through to trumpet yawns and textural strings, there’s plenty to love. The way new instruments are added each chorus or motif makes me think of a train picking up pace and stretching its legs. By the time we reach full steam ahead, all the instruments are working in tandem, serenely, with Justin’s soft voice gliding overhead. The music video sets the dreamy mood with a mix of cute train window footage and artwork. Fans of lush ’60s and ’70s folk music that embraces the free spirit will feel right at home here. There’s a timeless quality to the single that just works.

Justin says that he used the analogy of a train to think about how anxiety gains grip and momentum in the mind. The song offers up the idea that you should confront your fears, rather than flee from them. Expanding on this theme across the album, other songs will feature a wide range of reeds, strings, woodwinds, tuned percussion and guitar alongside the harp. Songs will speak of flowers as a language, too, finding similarities between the human and natural world.

Enjoy the gorgeous single ‘The Train’ with its music video. The single is out now. For more information about Justin Karas, use his Linktree to follow him on your favourite platform, or join his mailing list for regular updates. As a side note, I first came across Justin’s music through his soundtrack to the extremely satisfying tidy-up game ‘A Little To The Left’. With its mildly twee but sincere delivery, the same tone and cosy vibe extends to his solo work, too.
