With Faun gearing up for a new album (and shockingly having the same lineup for two albums in a row), their new single ‘NIMUE’ has a special guest collaborator. Fellow dark folk artist Chelsea Wolfe has lent her talents to the track, adding plenty of electric guitar flair to what is usually a more traditional Pagan folk sound. Chelsea doesn’t provide any vocals, but her guitar gaze is felt across the choruses and in the atmospherics backing up the main herdy-gurdy, pipes, and flute riffs. It is a tense and dense track, heavier than some of the more commercially conscious singles from some of Faun’s more recent albums. I feel like this song cycle is more in touch with Faun’s older music, whilst still sounding fresh.
‘NIMUE’ comes with a fantastically witchy music video that follows the story of the song. The single itself is a poetic take on Lady of the Lake, with Nimue sealing Merlin in a cave and placing him under a spell of enchantment. It’s the latest single from Faun’s forthcoming album ‘HEX’, which is due for release on 5th September. The album definitely has a magick theme, and will feature other collaborations such as the Turkish culture-infused ‘Umay’, which featured Fatma Turgut.
You can preorder ‘HEX’ now.
