Raised in Southeast Kansas, singer-songwriter Lisa Michelle Anderson has spent time in Australia and Greece before returning to her American roots. All those experiences have folded elements of desert folk rock into her musicality, giving her Americana-rock a certain twang that other musicians don’t have. Lisa’s upcoming album ‘Spend a Little Time’ is her most emotional and personal work to date. The theme is to explore the complexity of love, whilst expanding her sound palette.
The title track is the latest single. Lisa Michelle Anderson’s voice has a calmness to it. A soothing balm when reminiscing about heartache and missteps. What drew me in further was the hint of grizzle on the electric guitar in the verses, and the Americana motifs and embellishments at the end of each bar in the choruses. It’s country with an edge, and whilst the track stays restrained, there’s a desert coil of pain that slithers in the margins that I really gelled with.
Speaking about the title track, Lisa Michelle Anderson says:
“[‘Spend a Little Time’] asks one of life’s most enduring questions: What if we had spent just a little more time with someone we once loved? Would our lives have unfolded differently? At the same time, the song tells a deeply selfless love story—one where caring for someone means encouraging them to pursue their dreams, even if it means watching them walk away. It’s a poignant meditation on love, sacrifice, regret, and the understanding that sometimes the greatest act of love is letting someone become who they were meant to be.”
