Introducing… Eve Goodman + SERA

‘Anian’ is Welsh for ‘instinct’ and is the title of the new single from folk duo Eve Goodman + SERA. The duo began working together after they were selected as BBC Horizons Artists in 2019. After a writing session together, they found common ground in their love and connection to nature. That led to exploring the surrounding North Wales landscape, and so their music came into being.

The culmination of their efforts will be ‘Natur’, their collaborative album, due for release this Autumn. ‘Anian’ is a warm acoustic guitar track with a witchy, rustic undertone. Gentle wooden percussion knocks and ticks under the guitar and vocal layers as the Welsh lyrics ask us to remember and appreciate the natural world around us. It was co-produced by Colin Bass, who produced 9 Bach’s 2015 album ‘Tincian’, which was my introduction to that Welsh band. I love the rustic nature of the single. In some ways, it reminds me a lot of Maori folk music due to its sorrowful tone and uplifting, warm vocal layering.

For more information about Eve Goodman, visit Eve’s website. SERA is otherwise known as Sarah Zyborska, and you can find out more about her music and poetry on Sarah’s website. ‘Natur’ releases on 10th October and can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp.
