Introducing… Larker

Larker is a Montreal musician whose mixture of indie and alternative rock has elements of classic power moments, emotive vocals, and interesting chord progressions. He is gearing up for his debut album ‘Romanticide’ to be released on 17th October. Romance is the core theme of the album, and its latest single, ‘Myriad’, follows Larker’s on-and-off again relationship.

Speaking about ‘Myriad’, Larker says:

“Myriad” is a raw and introspective track that delves into the heart of a relationship caught in a repetitive, damaging cycle. The song’s central theme is a poignant exploration of how, in a myriad of the same fights, we mistake the ashes of a failing relationship for warmth, clinging to a past that no longer serves us. It captures the push and pull between two people, one desperate for resolution and the other drawn to the familiarity of the conflict.

It’s the oldest song on the record. It’s really simple and kind of embarrassingly direct, but it had to be on the record, there was no way around it. It’s really the story of the album distilled into the first song.”

The raw emotions of an unfiltered breakup song blast through with dramatic guitar chugs and emotionally-charged vocals that share a similar timbre to Thom Yorke at times. I love how the track switches time signatures without you even realising it. Verses and breaks rumble like a rock n roll drama, whilst the chorus waltzes smoothly as Larker pleads “we’ve got to settle down and figure out what the hell went wrong”. Watch out for the organ sneak attack and the wooden stick percussion to get you riled up for more. It’s a superb single and one that’s been stuck in my head since the first listen.

‘Myriad’ is out now. Larker’s forthcoming self-produced debut album ‘Romanticide’ is out on 17th October. For more information, including pre-orders when they go live, visit Larker’s website.
