I can’t believe it’s been 18 years since Miku Hatsune first came along. The popular Vocaloid is a voice engine that can turn sampled voices into whatever pitch and sound you’d like her to sing. Through the years, she’s had different iterations, and interestingly, V2 and V4 are often cited as the popular updates. I think this is because Vocaloid singers carry a distinctive robotic cuteness to their voice. They sing realistically, but it’s clear they are digital. It’s not going for 100% realism because the character and charm come from its in-built robotic quirks.
Miku Hatsune had her 18th birthday as a soundback earlier this year, and to celebrate, a part of a demo track was shown as part of a wider presentation. Today, Crypton released the full song, ‘Prism’. As a display of V6’s capabilities, it sounds like a great middle ground between V2, V4, and the more recent NT version, borrowing bits from all of them. It also sounds quintessentially Miku. I personally like her sounding digital, and I’m delighted she’s staying that way. What do you think?
Miku Hatsune V6 is scheduled for the first half of 2026. A planned early access version for owners of existing Miku Hatsune owners is scheduled for December. I’ll be eyeing up the PIAPRO Characters Super Pack myself, as a special purchase to get all 6 Vocaloids.
