Arcana return after five years with new single, album coming 2026

Returning back to their neoclassical dark wave roots, 30 years in the making.

Arcana has been making gothic-infused music for over 30 years, and although it was thought that the band was no longer producing new music, that has now changed. Peter Bjärgö has been the central force of Arcana, and whilst he also releases music under his own name, ‘Natura Est Templum’ (Nature is my Temple) is the first new track as Arcana since the 2020 album ‘Petrichor’.

The announcement came yesterday when Peter released the music video with the message:

Arcana has gone into a new phase. Ever since the beginning, the thought of sacred music has been strong. Now 31 years later, Peter travels inwards and goes back to the beginning. A new album will be out in 2026, more information will follow.

It is great to have Arcana back, and the lead single is an achingly beautiful piece. Mixing cello, nyckelharpa, and a choir with a soprano lead, ‘Natura Est Templum’ is as cinematic as it is quietly devastating… or calming. It is one of those tracks that acts like an echo booster for your mood. I’m excited to hear more of Arcana, and with the reference to “going back to the beginning”, I wonder how neoclassical and industrially orchestral the sound may be. If you haven’t heard of Arcana, but know of Dead Can Dance, think their “Within the Realm of the Dying Sun” album, and you are on the money.
