Introducing… it foot, it ears

If Battles and Alt-J locked their cousin in the basement...

Would you like your guitar and drum duo rock to be completely skittish, jittery, and almost pastiche-math rock-esque? I thought you’d never ask! Introducing it foot, it ears, an experimental no wave art-punk duo from Salt Lake City.

Jason Rabb (guitar and vocals) and Nick Foster (drums and keys) met 20 years ago as percussionists studying at a conservatory. Now as it foot, it ears, they embrace a DIY approach. All the gear they use has been begged, borrowed, or community-sourced. They perform in garages. Each track is a mixture of weird ideas, angular riffs, and artistic kitsch that you’ll either love or hate. It foot, it ears is marmite, but it’s kind of marmite!

The lead single on their forthcoming album is titled ‘it sermonette’. The track is a patchwork quilt of motifs, mousey vocals, drone pads, and a weird tension. It Battles and Alt J had a cousin they locked in the basement, this song would be the output. Speaking about the track, it foot, it ears says:

“it Sermonette” is a sardonic response to making music in a place where religious organisations pummel the line between gospel and public policy—discarding women’s rights, justifying discrimination… But here we are, trying to find beauty in the little things.”

The latest single, ‘Doomed vacuum duet (with Lo)’ was released yesterday and features sandpaper, shovels, pot tops, and dog food scoops, to name but a few. The idea is to create a track about life’s garbage, using life’s garbage.

Both tracks are available now, with the album available to pre-order on Bandcamp. The album, entitled ‘Tip Toe Loops’, is due for release on 22nd May. It’s been nine years since their last release, so clearly the craziness has been bubbling away for some time. I can’t wait to get stuck in.
