Susanne Sundfør announces new album, and it’s a pipe organ and vocal concept piece

Kit Downes' pipe organ is the lead instrument.

Susanne Sundfør announced her new album, ‘Revelations of Divine Love’, today. The electronic and experimental pop artist has crafted many powerful anthems about love and passion over the years, and this album takes love in a slightly different direction. The announcement states the album took inspiration from Julian of Norwich, whose visionary writings, among the earliest surviving English texts by a woman, centre on divine love as the underlying structure of existence. I’m fascinated to hear how Susanne interprets the idea of divine love, an all-consuming love from God, instead of the love and damage between humans on Earth.

The lead single is the delicate and intimate ‘I It Am’. The ballad leads wth Susanne Sundfør’s gorgeous voice, and features musician Kit Downes on pipe organ. Whilst pipe organs are often known for their bellows and foghorn blasts, this track turns the higher registers into a glassy, ethereal, and almost spacey heavenly space to float through. The album was recorded in a Norwegian church, and the natural ambience lets the pipe organ breathe. I’m anticipating a quiet, gentle, and introspective album, as the press release states the album includes spoken word passages and organ instrumentals. The lyrics of ‘I It Am’ come directly from the 1901 Grace Warrack translation of the Julian of Norwich text. I think this will be an album for twilight hours, slow exhales, and times of sanctuary, whether religious or not.

‘Revelations of Divine Love’ is due for release on 2nd October 2026. You can pre-order the album on Bandcamp. It’s a far cry from ‘White Foxes’, and that’s why we love artists who metamorphose into new forms for each album.
