Sharkeologist’s Nirvana cover comes with a Nerdvana music video quiz

The music video visits key locations to Cobain and Nirvana's legacy.

Seattle continues to be the home of grunge, and Jeff Grant, lead singer and songwriter for Seattle-based Sharkeologist, wants to pay his respects to those who trailblazed before him. Since releasing their debut album ‘The Last Gasp’ in 2024, the quintet have been busy touring and putting out new music. Their latest release is entitled ‘Taxidermy is Forever’, and it is a chaotic melting pot of grunge and rock covers, a Black Sabbath rendition of a Christmas carol, and saxophone celebrations of synth-pop. Its weirdness is its badge of honour.

A key central track is a cover of Nirvana’s live staple ‘Aneurysm’. Taken from their Incesticide album, it’s an explosive catapult of grungy riffs switchbacking to hazy trippy moments of psychedelia, Seattle-style. Sharkeologist takes the track more towards a 90s grunge metal vibe, with big guitar chords and shouty vocals. It’s a shorter, slightly faster rendition (to my ears anyway) that works well. The music video doubles up as a Nirvana on-location quiz. There are three locations shown, and listeners have to guess what meaning they have to Kurt Cobain and the Nirvana legacy. It’s a great way to enjoy a decent cover and a knowledgeable homage.
