Gia Margaret is a singer-songwriter from Chicago, Illinois, and she’s been out promoting her 2026 album ‘Singing’. This included a fabulous performance on the ever-amazing and diverse Live on KEXP. The album was born from sustaining a vocal injury and losing her voice as a result. It’s taken several years to recover, and during that time, Gia Margaret released instrumental ambient music as a way to explore other musical languages. As Gia’s voice returned, she decided to bring back singing into her music for the first time in 8 years with the new album.
Fittingly, the album was recorded with Guy Sigworth, who many readers will know is one half of Frou Frou, where Imogen Heap often explores vocoders to augment her voice. Gia Margaret does the same over warm, cosy, folk pop. Whether it’s soft, dewy ballads on piano or guitar or something more Dido-esque with drum machines and synths, Gia has a knack for loose and easy music to drift away to on a slow morning.
