Marissa Nadler has been on the fringes of my musical catalogue for years and I keep meaning to check her out. With her new album For My Crimes coming out 28th September, now is a better time than most as she has released an absolutely sublime lead single “Blue Vapor”. The track has a deep blues quality to it but in a dark and witchy way. There are elements of gothic melodrama as Marissa’s voice never get’s heavy – but her ability to sound emotional as she rises up the octaves in the choruses as the other instruments get heavier around her makes the song really feel momentous and epic.
The music video is really well done. Director Thomas McMahan and Marissa Nadler worked on it together and it’s a superb collection of images showing how depersonalised our lives have become. “Blue Vapor” the single is out now, and you can enjoy the video below. The album For My Crimes is out 28th September. Now excuse me whilst I add her back catalogue to my wishlist!
