Ellyn Woods has been on a long five year journey towards finishing recording her first album. Her debut EP ‘Sound of Home’ was released in 2015 and featured an indie-folk journal of her backpacking tour of the west coast of Canada. Since then she’s been transitioning her sound to incorporate her hushed indie-folk vocals into something more indie-pop focused. The emphasis is on laid back pop beats and smudged synths that reminds me a little of Little Dragon at times but with Siobhan Donaghy’s voice. It isn’t quite mainstream to be full on pop, but it has enough pop to not be labelled alternative either.
‘Tangerine’ is the new single which exudes the chilled vibes Ellyn Woods is going for. It comes from her forthcoming album which is yet to have a release date but considering she’s racking up hundreds of thousands of streams, its safe to say when it drops, people will be ready and waiting. Enjoy ‘Tangerine’ below. Also, Ellyn has a passion for tattooing so if you need a new design and your in Montreal, maybe she’s your artist!
