Hiatus is the stage name for Cyrus Shahrad, an electronic producer that mixes beats, synths and intimate acoustic sounds such as strings and piano. The lead single from his forthcoming new album ‘Distancer’ is called ‘Arrival’. It features all of the above alongside a spoken word poem called ‘The Guest House’ which was written by 12th Century Persian poet Rumi. Hiatus says the poem, and his music, can be used as messages of hope that can be healing in their own right. ‘Arrival’ also comes with a really trippy music video featuring animations of colour blobs that look like solar systems.
Fans of Bibio, Bonobo, Tycho and perhaps to a lesser extent Four Tet will all find a lot to love with Hiatus’ music. He evokes the same feeling of wonder, grandeur, sensitivity and motion in his music as those artists too in theirs. Enjoy the music video for ‘Arrival’ below – the single is out now. Hiatus’ new album ‘Distancer’ is currently slated for release on 12th March 2021.
