Helsinki based singer-songwriter Anni Pohto mixes up various guises of pop. Her latest single ‘Closure’ feels like it could be a symphonic pop extravaganza but stays tightly coiled around buzzing synths and a dynamic vocal performance. It also features Finland’s national instrument the Kantele. It’s like a plucked psaltery (lap harp) and I love folk instruments so bring it on. ‘Closure’ is the second single from Anni Pohto’s forthcoming album ‘The Rising’ which is due out this summer. It is a concept album around healing and empowerment. This single is a statement of taking charge.
Enjoy ‘Closure’ below with its cool text chat lyric video. Anni Pohto has a motto. ‘My voice, my piano, my beats’. She lived in Boston and New York as a youngster and so enjoys bringing some American musicality to her Nordic side and vice versa. I look forward to hearing where it all leads later this year.
