There is something sadistically funny about Birthday Ass and their new single ‘Blah’. 90% of the lyrics are pure ‘blah’ and the whole thing is an unhinged explosion of crazy Frank Zappa as an indie rock band. Whilst it is pure bubbly chaos, it is also weirdly tuneful too – it took me a few listens but I wanted to get it and I’m glad I did. It reminds me of my internal monologue whenever I hear a press statement!
Birthday Ass are a sextet jazz rock band complete with alto saxophone and trumpet players. Their music genres bounce around quite a bit as will be made evident in their forthcoming album ‘Head of the Household’. The album even has an interpretation of a classic nursery rhyme on it. I don’t think I’m more genuinely intrigued to hear what on earth a band has made with a record as I have for Birthday Ass’ this year. File under ‘WTF’ but with a gleeful smile on your face. Enjoy ‘Blah’ below. I can’t wait for TickTockers to discover the middle section and lipsync that stuff into oblivion…
‘Head of the Household’ is due out on the 23rd of April. Enjoy the video for ‘Blah’ below.
