Imagine the ominous vibes of Evanescence mixed with Enya and Emmy Rossum and you have Cheryl B. Engelhardt. Cheryl’s mix of vocal layer melodies and witchy dream folk means that she can appeal to both ends of that spectrum. Although cast into the New Age music camp, probably through her lyrics of love and compassion usually being the subject matter, I really connected with the mysterious vibe Cheryl’s gone for. I am always impressed with anyone who can layer their own voice into a choir and if you listen closely, there are lots of mini Engelhardt’s doing vocal patterns all over the place.
Her new single is ‘Unwind’ and is a dreamy soup of her voice over calming synths and drums. It is her first single following on from her 2020 album ‘Luminary’ which was awarded ‘Best New Age Album 2020’ from New Age Music Guide. Even guides need guides then!
