Belgian and French singer/songwriter Penelope Antena comes from a very diverse musical family. Her mother Isabelle Antena was one of the pioneers of Electro Samba. Her grandfather is Marc Moulin, a jazz pianist whose work was influential for the jazz record label Blue Note. Penelope is forging her own path with an unusual blend of jazz, folk, Americana and gospel pop. Her music jumps from genre to genre but Penelope’s voice and smooth jazzy piano trickle along regardless of where she goes.
‘Back To Stay’ is the lead single and beautiful ballad from her forthcoming new album ‘Beamorose’. The album is due out on 19th August and after a bit of a poppier debut, this feels like a smoother and more folksy backdrop for follow up. I really like it, even if some of her earlier pop work is less to my personal taste. Enjoy the track below.
