Lightweight breezy jangle pop.
A short, sharp EP to give you breezy jangle pop, Good Posture (Leipzig based Joel Randles) makes use of just over ten minutes of your time to give you shimmering hits. His style is indie pop/rock but with a retro happy Eurovision shade to it. There’s a childish quality to it whilst giving you a full band sound – these are radio hits in waiting.
‘Last Time’ has a catchy melodic chorus of falsetto cute vocals, retro synths and thick drum machines and bass lines. It feels like how Netflix insists an indie comedy movie soundtrack about a quirky adult should sound like. This idea stuck with me throughout all four tracks. ‘Changin” is more hazy and psychedelic as the keyboards twinkle over a warped record of guitars that sway in the breeze. There’s a lot of wood blocks for drum snares which gives you the vibe it’s going for. ‘I Feel Fine’ is more synthpop and toes a similar sound akin to Patrick Wolf’s more mainstream sounds. Big rolling drums, dreamy guitars, a rowdy but drifting vocal. Along with ‘Italy’, a soft new wave ballad, the two feel less straightforward and designed for radio but offer more personality and musical intrigue. Quirky sounds, less cohesive vocals – a less hippy indie-pop feel.
Over and out in just over 10 minutes, Good Posture knows how to keep you on your toes. Those looking for breezy indie-pop will lap this up – especially if you want a splash of dreamgaze or 70’s psychedelia in the mix too.
