I Was a King hail for Norway and are approaching their ninth album ‘Follow Me Home’. The duo Frode and Ann have been creating music since 2006 and after their previous two albums were band orientated, they’ve enjoyed stripping it back again. Whilst still very much rock, they’ve enjoyed exploring their lighter side. ‘Follow Me Home’ is designed to sound like the listener is popping their feet up at the end of a long day. Some of it like the title track is acoustic folk rock whereas others like ‘Growing Wild’ are a bit more weary warrior orientated.
It’s ‘Growing Wild’ which is I Was a King’s newest single. I love the raw energy of the guitar that growls under the melody. Just a triangle and a bit of a shaker embellish from percussion but the strong melody and internal rhythm more than carry the track forward. When most bands put forward their easy anthem as a single, it’s a pleasure to see a band put out something a little less obvious as a single.
Enjoy ‘Growing Wild’ below, the single is out now. The album ‘Follow Me Home’ is available for pre-order now.
