Few live performers are as pitch-perfect as Loreena McKennitt and she is bringing fans a new selection of live music. ‘Huron Carol’ is the oldest known Canadian Christmas hymn and is the new single from the forthcoming album ‘Under A Winter’s Moon’. The live performance of ‘Huron Carol’ is the first time Loreena has recorded the track for release and it is a mystical melodic feast of folksy plucks, gentle percussive twinkles and heartfelt cello and Irish whistle. As always Loreena’s music seems to transport you away to another time and another world and the live setting only adds to this atmosphere.
The album ‘Under A Winter’s Moon’ will be a double CD and was recorded live at Knox Church in Ontario. The album features narration from Cedric Smith as he reads passages from ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ by Dylan Thomas. Just in time for the festive season, the album is due for release on the 18th of November and is available to pre-order now. To celebrate the release a two-week December tour across Ontario will take place. Tickets are also available now. I can’t think of a better way to welcome in the winter months than with a live show like this.
Enjoy the beautiful performance of ‘Huron Carol’ below. With that standard of video quality, I can only cross my fingers for a live performance release in the future too.
