Joanna Gemma Auguri is often found in the darker echelons of folk. On her fantastic 2021 album ’11’ she was often weilding her harmonium, which stood her out from her peers. On this live recording, taken in 2022 as part of Pop-Kultur Festival Berlin, Auguri is playing the zither instead. It isn’t often you get to hear live recordings of zither-led music so I wanted to share the superb rendition of ‘On The Beach’. It is such a simple-sounding song but Joanna Gemma Auguri’s deft hand and emotive vocals really make it hit home.
