Celestial North mixes wyrd folk and electronica ahead of her debut album

Tribal beats, quirky vocals and celestial synths collide for a rising star of dreamy folktronica

If ever a stage moniker did what it said on the tin, it would be Celestial North. The Scottish-born, Lake District based artist has no qualms mixing a harp and ancient drums with keyboards, beats and bass. Add in a whispy ethereal vocal and a splash of dream pop to the Norse mythology and Celestial North ticks all the boxes for me. Having released some singles in 2022, she is now ready for her debut album ‘Otherworld’ and has shared the titular track as the lead single. It balances deep pagan drum-led rhythms, ethereal and anthemic vocals and strong electronic undertones. Fans of early Bat For Lashes, Iamamiwhoami and Wendy Rule if she channelled her fairy side will adore this. Since she also veers close to piano-pop territory on occasion, I’m sure Kate Bush and Tori Amos fans will also feel at home too.

‘Otherworld’ is the opening track on the forthcoming album, due for release on the 7th of July. Celestial North explains that ‘Otherworld’ is “A rabble-rousing pick-me-up on days when life feels a bit much, a reminder that it will all be ok and that we are never truly alone in this world. Providing the beat and movement of life for us all to shake it off together.” It certainly does just that. Enjoy the single below, it is out now and you can follow Celestial North on Bandcamp to catch the album when it releases next month.
