There are few musicians that attack a guitar in the same way that Marnie Stern does. She is intense and idiosyncratic. Her guitar noodles and shakes like a freight train on its way to the asylum but that is all part of Marnie’s charm. A decade after her last release, Marnie Stern has announced ‘The Comeback Kid’. Feeling like she’s never left, it’s a throwback to the insane guitar and vocal noodling she created before but with fresh intent. She is infamous for her tapping techniques but Marnie has said that this time, she won’t be relying on that guitar-playing style nearly as much as she used to.
So what has Marnie Stern been up to in the decade between albums? Well, she is the guitarist for the band on The Late Show with Seth Myers and she’s been raising two children too. Enjoying the routine of a steady world whilst being a mum, now Marnie is keen to dabble back in her artistic side again.
The lead single ‘Plain Speak’ is the opener from the album ‘The Comeback Kid’. The single is out now, whereas the album comes out on 3rd November. It is available for pre-order on Bandcamp. Stern says the album is about finding happiness in the good things you do. I suggest you enjoy a good thing by listening to ‘Plain Speak’ below.
