London-based electronic songwriter and producer Tusks is back with new music five years after her last release. The synth-heavy artist sits perfectly in the thoughtful indie electronic genre with emotionally charged melodies, vocals and riffs that get under your skin. In some ways, I’m reminded of fellow electronic artists Hundred Waters as Tusks runs the gambit from graceful ambient wisps to dense compacted whiplash machines.
Tusks’ forthcoming album ‘Gold’ is an album about contrasts. Not only did Tusks experience wild swings from breakups to love and cramped lockdowns to freedom, but the album channels this sonically too. With half the album created in London, and the other half created in rural Devon, the album moves between lo-fi and hi-fi production to match the mood. Tusk describes ‘Gold’ as “a musicians album” as it allowed her to explore new creative ways to sample and create music.
The latest single is ‘Strangers’, a fantastic brooding and pulsating track about the emotions felt when ending a relationship. Its soaking-wet music video (perhaps inspired by the Devonshire weather) is part one of a two-part music video series and expertly captures the moodiness and tense stakes the music brings.
Enjoy the track ‘Strangers’ below, the single is out now. ‘Gold’ releases on 12th April and is available to pre-order now.
