Indie psyche rock band Beams returns with new single and 4th album

A rally cry for peace and humanity in a world that needs regeneration.

Canadian indie psychedelic rock band Beams returns with their fourth album ‘Requiem for a Planet’ and continues to bring their unique genre-striding style. You can probably tell it is difficult for me to cram all the genres in a single sentence, but it is because Beams effortlessly weaves bits of folk, indie, psyche and traditional supergroup-styled rock together. I adored their 2021 album ‘Ego Death‘ and it seems their new album focuses on a wider death of our planet. In doing so, the band has tweaked its sound to become a little more rustic. There is a shift towards Americana and an element of blues trickling in alongside some of the hazier production that comes with a lower-fi production.

The lead single from the album ‘A.W.I’L’. has a fantastic flow between delicate and serene vocal pieces and cathartic releases of big guitar surges and drum fills. It perfectly encapsulates how Beams can work with both ends of the emotional sound spectrum. The lyrics are about a warcry for working together for peace and humanity. The music video showcases controlled burning. Director Jess Price says “The practice requires awareness, patience, teamwork, and communication. It is regenerative. A mitigator. A way to maintain. It points to life.”

Enjoy the excellent single ‘A.W.I.L.’ below, it is out now. You can pre-order ‘Requiem for a Planet’ over on Bandcamp now, it’s due for release on the 3rd May.
