Welsh alt-folk quartet Safari Gold built their own studio in a house over a decade ago. It allowed the band to create music in a way that made sense to them. It is their safe space and that’s exactly the mentality that Safari Gold bring with their new single ‘Lemonade Baby’. The four friends have been making music together since they were teenagers and they’ve formed a deep friendship as a result. The band says:
“Lemonade Baby is about reconnecting with old friends. Guys especially can find it hard to open up to each other and the song is almost a reminder of the good times that can come from reconnecting.”

With that comes the warming, reflective and slightly sanguine folk-pop which marks a turning point for Safari Gold. This is a more acoustic-driven sound compared to the more plugged indie sound of their previous album ‘The Years Between the Dog and Wolf’. Whether that sound carries through to upcoming singles coming later in 2024 remains to be seen. I really connected with the theme of breaking down barriers over a casual meet-up. My friend group are reaching big milestones and our friendships are more fragmented but more meaningful than ever. ‘Lemonade Baby’ resonates on that basis.
