Introducing… Raspberry Protocol

Hailing from Salt Lake City, Raspberry Protocol brings a college bubblegum pop edge to their indie rock on their new single ‘Hot Girl Summer’. It is a bright slice of catchy swinging chords that tells of a summertime love and queer discovery. Whilst the intentions might be pure, the lyrics hint at the complexities of finding yourself. “I was raised to believe this is wrong to do, when you’re looking at me, I know that’s not true” sings lead vocalist and guitarist Kiwi. It’s a simple sentiment, delivered with ice cream and sprinkles.

Raspberry Protocol is a five-piece band that brings that slightly ditzy Vanessa Carlton-esque vocal into various styles of pop-punk rock. Previous single ‘Wild Things’ was more acoustic First Aid Kit styled and showed their tender side. Other singles such as ‘Wakka;’ and ‘Deluth’ are far heavier with a crunchier, garage rock sound. I wasn’t expecting huge guitar solos and messier production but it really works. This time around, they want to party into the summer feeling light as air with a radio-friendly production. What surprised me was just how versatile and consistent Raspberry Protocol are across the different styles, making any future EP’s or LP’s a tantalising prospect.

‘Hot Girl Summer’ is out now and you can listen to the catchy track below. For more information about the band, visit Raspberry Protocol’s website.
