Sarah Walk becomes Breymer – with new double single and album ‘When I Get Through’

Changing your name as an artist is a bold move, but for Sarah Walk, Breymer has been a part of their life since birth. On speaking about it, the singer-songwriter said:

“Choosing a name requires a certain amount of agency and intentionality. This album feels bold and gender non-conforming, and Breymer feels like it represents all of that and suits the music really well. Bremer is my middle name and has always been intriguing to me; I like that it’s androgynous and uncommon (I changed the spelling slightly to make it even more so), and I like that it separates my artist existence from my personal one. I want Breymer to be the encapsulation of the confidence and celebration in my own body that I needed to see when I was going through this process”.

Breymer

To celebrate this rebirth and separation, Breymer’s new album ‘When I Get Through’ has been announced – coming out on 18th October. The album explores Breymer’s relationship to their identity and gender and chronicles the journey of having top surgery. Lyrically, the album explores insecurities, self-doubt and self-acceptance – themes that are universal to all. Dig deeper and you’ll find a kindred spirit for anyone who wants to feel comfortable in their own skin. Alongside fiercely rich and powerful vocals, the album features the trademark piano nestled in a rich bluesy rock band sound. Fans of the albums released as Sarah Walk will feel right at home and the emotions are as intensely felt as ever.

‘Wrong Path’ and ‘Darkness’ are the AA singles released this weekend and you can enjoy as-live recordings of them below. Breymer describes ‘Wrong Path’ as a song about knowing something needs to change and having the strength to act upon it. ‘Darkness’ is about supporting someone else during your own tough times and how that can spur you on with your own battles too. They’ll run back-to-back early on the album so this chronicles an earlier section of the top surgery journey.
